In March we were asked to manage a concrete floor laying project in Lancaster, we were contracted to lay a level concrete house slab base for a property in Morecambe. The base was required to be level and suitable for underfloor heating to be installed. We finished the job with a top level of under floor heated screed.
We then installed a self levelling screed which is also known as a liquid screed, this type does exactly as it says on the tin, we simply pump it onto the floor and spreads out across the entire surface to achieve a level finish. A benefit to using a self levelling screed is that it can be laid thinner than dry versions and reduce the risk of unwelcome voids forming.
It’s important that we lay the screed as quickly as possible after the under floor heating is in place, this is to minimise the risk of damage to the exposed pipework. The system should be pressure-tested for leaks before work begins, and pressure maintained while we lay the screed.
